Which are the Best Live Feeder Insects?

Posted by Critter Depot on

Table of Contents

The nutritional profile of an insectivorous lizard (like a leopard gecko) should be balanced in the range below:

Typical Carnivorous Reptile Diet

  • High in Protein (30-60%)
  • High in Fat (40-70%)
  • Low carbohydrates and Indigestible Fiber

Other, omnivorous species, have slightly different dietary requirements. However, the insects they eat should be close to this composition for maximum benefits! The high protein allows your pet to build new cells, repair injuries, and create new proteins. The fat serves as a major energy source - eventually being turned into energy for each cell in your pet’s body!

Here's how the most common feeder insects compare against each other:

  • Love those company. The have been feeding my beardie for the last year. Pick the size for your dragon by the space between their eyes. The big should be no bigger or they cam choke.

  • I had ordered crickets for the first time from you after learning about this company through a bearded dragon group. I hate crickets but I know dragons need variety so I give them to my 5 month old dragon. Well I have to tell you, I will never buy them from a pet store again now that I’ve bought them from this company. These crickets are the healthiest crickets I’ve ever come across. I never have to pull out dead ones like I do when they come from a pet store. And shipping is fast. I will always order from Critter Depot!

  • I’m looking for insects to feed a Costa Rican tarantula. This site doesn’t have any information on feeding arachnids.
